In general the short answer is no, makeup is not bad for your skin! The long answer is that everyone is different, so each person will need to use the makeup that makes up for them. We’ll go over a few pointers to keep your skin clear and healthy, no matter how much you love to use makeup! If you don’t properly wash and maintain your skin, you could run the risk of a breakout. It’s also important to watch out for makeup that could cause allergic reactions!

Use the Right Makeup for You

Not all makeup is made the same and neither are people! This means that you need to experiment with different kinds of makeup to find what is best for you and your skin.
For example, many people love to use waterproof eyeliner or mascara, and for good reason! It’s long-lasting and looks great! However, if improperly removed, it can damage your lashes and the delicate skin around your eyes. Another issue to consider is if your skin has some kind of allergic reaction to the makeup you use. A puffy face won’t be hidden by even the best of concealers!

Tips for Dry Skin

Use liquid of cream makeups to help hydrate dry skin and create a more beautiful look. Using matte or dry makeups don’t work very well for dry skin because it clings to all of the dead skin and can make it look like you rolled your face in corn flakes!

Tips for Oily Skin

Oily skin is dealt with opposite of how dry skin is dealt with. The last thing you need is more moisture! Use dryer makeups with matt finishes to reduce the natural oily shine of your skin. If you use a moisturizing makeup you might end up looking like a porcelain doll!

Tips for Combination Skin

Some people have the challenge of working with combination skin, which is skin that is oily in some parts and dry in others. If this sounds like you then it’s important for you to experiment with the best way to care for and make up your skin. Use makeup for oily and dry skins as needed, and try out different combinations until you find what is healthy and beautiful for your skin.

Pointers to Avoid Makeup Mistakes

While makeup isn’t bad for your skin, there are some things you can do to harm your skin if you’re not careful. Following these tips will make sure that your skin stays healthy and clear!

Always Clean Your Face

The most common negative side effect from wearing makeup is acne, and nobody wants that! Cleaning your face daily can provide a few benefits if you regularly wear makeup. First of all, makeup applies better to clean and moisturized skin, so you will look better right away if you keep your face clean. Second, you should always wash the makeup off your face at the end of the day! If you leave makeup on overnight it can sink into your pores and increases the risk of creating pimples!

Don’t Sweat it!

This tip is a minor one, but make sure you never ever exercise with your full makeup on! A little bit of skin oil is normal for everyday wear and tear, but sweating excessively while wearing makeup can dramatically increase your risk of a breakout. You don’t need to get all of the makeup off of your face, but you can simply use a makeup-removing moist towelette before hitting the treadmill.

Do Some Research!

Just like the ingredients in your food, you should know about the ingredients in your makeup. Most makeup sold in stores in the United States are heavily regulated by the FDA to ensure that there are no dangerous ingredients. Sometimes however, new studies may reveal links between certain ingredients and negative side effects. In cases like that it’s up to you to decide if something might be dangerous to use.

Fall is here! By now you’ve probably broken out your favorite pair of heeled boots and every knit scarf you own! With winter just around the corner, it’s important to remember to take care of your most important beauty features: skin and hair. During the winter it’s easy to let skin go dry and for hair to become brittle with it all bundled up in your favorite hats. Cranberries are a great option for the fall harvest season, but if you don’t love cranberries, blueberries are a good substitute.

Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds are the perfect seasonal snack! They’re tasty and are easy to make at home if you don’t want to buy them pre-baked at the store. Squash

Squash are one of nature’s miracle foods! They are fantastic for your skin, especially for the skin under your eyes. They are full of building block vitamins that help to strengthen skin and build collagen. Squash include a large variety of different vegetables, like zucchini or spaghetti squash. They can all be cooked in countless ways to make getting healthy skin easy!

Spinach

Your mom will be so proud of you for eating this! She wasn’t wrong about it being good for you; spinach offers a huge number health benefits. Not only is it high in iron just like mother used to say, it gives plenty of vitamin C and lutein, which helps keep your eyes healthy and sparkling. Not a fan of spinach? Toss them in a pan with a tablespoon of oil, squeeze half a lemon into it, and finish them off with a sprinkle of salt for a zesty flavor that is still healthy!

Oats

Oats are abundant in fall, and can be used in so many ways! Whether you eat oats as breakfast cereal or in desserts, your hair will thank you for having them!
